Sunset

Turn back the pages with words once true
Re-tell the stories we once lived through
Sit back and remember what is now gone
Memories kept dear, to be forever held on
She wished she could have done back then
Re-lived a time we had way back when

Sailing through the summer’s cool breeze
That kissed the water beneath our feet
Raise the sail and close your eyes
A compass guided by our free minds
On an island with a single tree
Remaining there these hearts will forever be
A house by the lake is where we kept them
Our days are still right where we left them

Watching the sun set in the west
Counting the days ‘till eternal rest
Seeing the sky burn into flame
Life is more than one big game
Enjoy this sunset while it lasts
For soon this moment will come to pass

When night’s shadow creeps over the sky
We stand here together by the fire’s side
Smells of smoke and sin fill the air
The youth we drank without a single care
We walked over the sands of time
Forces of love and lust were combined
The wind blew and knocked us down
Into the water those dreams have drowned

We will love, we will hate
We will think they are the same
We will live, we will die
We will wonder why we try
We will never be the same
As we are right here and now
In this moment, in this day
We are who we are

Watching the sun set in the west
Counting the days ‘till eternal rest
Seeing the sky burn into flame
Life is more than one big game
Enjoy the sunset while it lasts
For soon this moment will come to pass

All that matters here
Is the love we share
With our beating hearts
To the end from the start
When it’s said and done
What will we look back upon?
Pages with words barely true,
Or stories we once lived through?
